![]() NewsADORATION HOLY HOURSpend time talking to God about Vocations All are welcome to come pray at Adoration Holy Hour Friday, May 18 "Particularly in these times, when the voice of the Lord seems to be drowned out by ‘other voices' and his invitation to follow him by the gift of one's own life may seem too difficult, every Christian community, every member of the Church, needs to consciously feel responsible for promoting vocations." - Pope Benedict XVI Make a plan to shut out the noise of the world, get a toehold into Heaven, and join us as we gather to spend an hour of rich, prayerful, sometimes quiet time but always joyous time in the company of our Lord. Make this a significant time to pray for vocations to the priesthood, religious life and for every person to hear God's voice in how they are to live out the vocation he has planned for them, most especially our children. This is a Cross Connections event, and perfect opportunity for parents to bring their entire families and join their children in prayer. Fr. David will begin the night with a brief talk on the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist, which lays the groundwork for adoration and why we do, what we do. What a privilege to raise our voices to God along with yours. We hope to see you there! Our Lady of Sorrows Vocations Committee FIRST EUCHARIST LITURGIESFirst Eucharist for a majority of the children of the parish took place last weekend. During the first three weekends of May, the remaining children will also come to the table of the Lord to receive their First Eucharist. Let us keep them in our prayers as they continue to grow in faith and receive this gift with great joy and sincerity. SORROWS/BEAHAN REUNIONIf you attended Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School and/or Thomas P. Beahan Junior High, and graduated from high school in 1980 ... WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!! CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORDChildren's Liturgy of the Word An Invitation to Catechists Every Sunday the parish gathers to share a Eucharistic Meal and to hear the stories of our faith. These are the readings from the Hebrew Scriptures that tell the stories of our ancient roots in the chosen people of God and the New Testament stories about the early church. Some of these readings are difficult to understand and a liturgical setting doesn't allow us to raise our hands to ask a question. For adults, the homilist provides the fullness of the scripture readings, however, children gain more from the readings when they hear them in language suited to their age in the company of other children. And so, the children ages four through grade three are dismissed from the assembly and process downstairs into a relaxed environment. The catechist proclaims the Word of God from the children's lectionary and engages the children in conversation about the gospel and readings. Catechists for this ministry are given excellent materials to help them prepare for the 15-20 minute session and are given the opportunity to schedule themselves. They gather once a year for a brief meeting to discuss this very important ministry and set the calendar for the coming months.
