RELIGION

Our religion program, We Believe, helps our young children learn, live and hope in the Good News of Jesus Christ.  We attend mass once a month to strengthen the connection with our Pastor and the mass. 

READING

The Land of the Letter People program offers a warm friendly environment in which children are encouraged to try their developing literacy and social skills with the assurance that their own knowledge and ideas are respected and valued.  The program is a balanced literacy approach using both spoken and written language.  The Letter People program offers a wide range of whole-class, small group, and individual learning experiences to meet each child’s needs. 

ENGLISH

The recognition of letters and the comprehension of beginning and ending sounds are taught through a varied, yet ordered manner that is integrated into all areas of the kindergarten program.  Emphasis is made through hands-on, meaningful activities that are directly related to the life experiences of the children.

HANDWRITING WITHOUT TEARS

The Handwriting Without Tears program we use teaches capital & lowercase letter and number formation.  Children learn to print using hands-on materials and developmentally appropriate activities.  Fine motor work prepares our students for pencil and paper success in the student workbook.  This program teaches our students though a multi-sensory approach, which helps to build strong fine and gross motor control. 

SCIENCE

Our program, Scott Foresman Science, teaches our students through the three stages of inquiry.  We explore Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science and The Human Body.  The children learn by doing lab experiments, activity DVD’s and science songs.

MATH

The McGraw-Hill Mathematics program is organized to help children achieve mastery of the concepts taught.  Each concept is introduced manipulatively.  Emphasis is placed on positions, classifying, sorting, graphing, patterning, money, measurement, time, addition, subtraction, basic geometry, fraction and number concepts.

TECHNOLOGY

Our classrooms are equipped with interactive Promethean boards, which enhance our curriculum by applying the latest technology in teaching.  These boards allow our teachers to show interactive lessons engaging the students in a variety experiences.

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School provides private parent communication tool called Edline.  This website is accessed thru individual passwords, and it gives parents the opportunity to be informed on classroom activities, news and class work.  Edline also allows parents to receive email alerts from the school, view school wide news and calendars.  Parents may also communicate to teachers thru email.
