![]() Christian Service OutreachMinisters to the Sick and HomeboundWe provide training, guidance and support to ministers who visit the sick and homebound. Eucharistic Visitors bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are homebound, in a nursing home, or hospital and unable to attend Mass. An EME makes a visit once a week to an individual, or once a month to a senior residence, such as Farmington Place, Grand River Village, or other area nursing homes. McHugh, Chairperson A Pastoral Health Care Minister is a registered nurse or other licensed health professional who serves as a minister of health resources within our parish faith community. The Pastoral Health Care Minister creates an awareness of healthy living programs, promotes parish health related actvities (e.g. flu clinic, blood drive, Mass of Anointing, Senior Retreat, etc.). St. Vincent de Paul SocietyMichael Cuschieri, Chairperson The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides material and spiritual help to those in need within Our Lady of Sorrows Parish boundaries from funds collected from the poor boxes in church, individual contributions, and the Thanksgiving Mass collection. Two clothing collection drives are conducted annually. Members meet twice monthly and make calls to those in need as requested. St. Patrick Senior CenterRita Kramer, Chairperson Volunteers from the parish prepare and serve a meal at St. Pat’s Senior Center one day each month. Cars leave the OLS parking lot around 9:00 a.m. and return approximately 2:00 p.m. If you are interested in serving dinner, preparing potatoes or a dessert, please call the parish office. St. Leo's Soup KitchenVolunteers prepare and serve a meal at St. Leo’s several Saturdays each year. Desserts are also needed and can be left in the Ushers’ Room prior to each date. Those preparing the meal leave OLS around 9:00 a.m. and return around 2:00 p.m. If you are interested in joining the group for one of these dates, please call the parish office. Dates for 2009 are, January 24, April 25, June 27 and October 17, 2009. Please contact Bev Kimbro at 248-476-7848 South Oakland Shelter (SOS) The mission of the South Oakland Shelter is to provide emergency shelter for the needy and to help break the cycle of homelessness. The shelter rotates between a support ntework of over 50 faith based organizations. Each houses the shelter for a week, housing a maximum of 30 individuals. Our Lady of Sorrows hosts the shelter every year. This is a very labor intensive Christian Service Project. Many hands are needed to prepare meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), do laundry, transport our guests, and to perform other tasks for the shelter. This year Our Lady of Sorrows will be hosting the shelter the week of February 1st through the 8th. Please see the bulletin for contact information. Red Cross Blood Drive Our Lady of Sorrows hosts the American Red Cross Blood Drive every Spring and Fall. Volunteers sign up donors before the blood drive and assist the Red Cross on the Sunday of the drive. The Spring blood drive will take place on April 26, 2009.
